NDC Logo

New Dawn Counselling Practice offers counselling services covering Consett and Derwentside as well as Gateshead. Our counsellors are fully qualified and members of the BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy), working within the ethical framework of the BACP. Our counselling orientation is of an Integrative Approach to ensure that the individual needs of a client are best served. The well-being of a client is our primary consideration. Our practice is offered to individuals and private organisations mainly in Tyneside and the Derwent Valley, but other areas are covered by arrangement.
Services are also available to Employers who offer Employee Assistance Programmes.

What is Counselling?

Counselling is time set aside by a client and their counsellor, to meet within a comfortable, safe and confidential environment to look at and consider what has brought the client to seek help from the counsellor. This may include talking about life events and experiences, feelings, emotions, relationships, ways of thinking or patterns of behaviour. The counsellor will do their best to help the client to reflect on their issues and endeavour to help the client to find a course of action which is right for them. This course of action may help the client to resolve their difficulties or it may help them to find better ways of coping. Multiple sessions with a counsellor may be appropriate, as talking through issues takes time and all issues may not be covered in a single session. Short term therapy may involve 6 to 10 sessions.

Why Counselling?

Usually a person chooses to enter into counselling because they are experiencing difficulties and stress in their day to day lives at work or at home, or perhaps both. Even with the support of friends and family, difficulties may cause anxiety or depression and it can often be beneficial to discuss matters with a person who is totally independent of family and friends. Life issues may include bereavement, relationship difficulties, redundancy, health issues, or work related stress or bullying. Indeed, any issue which is greatly troubling a person can bring them to a counsellor.
